Illusogender is a neurogender originally defined as "you know you are a certain gender, BBUUUUTT there is still that ‘feeling’ of fakeness there - because of neurodivergency and/or outward experience (such as parents constantly telling you ‘you just fakin’)- and it is kind of part of that gender experience. It can be used as a standalone thing like illusogender xy or as a contraction (e.g. illusoboy)."1
It was later simplified as "when you know you're a certain gender, but there's still the feeling of 'fakeness' there, either due to neurodivergency and/or due to outside pressure from parents, society, etc. These feelings and/or pressures can be part of the gender experience."2

History of the term

MOGAI-Watch Poem

My social group informs me
that I can’t be cis;
though I’m sure that’s what I am,
I guess I wouldn’t be amiss

to say I’m illusogender
and treat the label as a fact…
if only as a strategy
to get MOGAI off my back.
